Lake Talk: Tree Army Reboot--Updating the Legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps
Featured speaker Chris Litzau will talk about preserving and updating the legacy of the 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC, also dubbed the “Tree Army”) in a way that responds to current needs in Great Lakes communities. Litzau is director of the Great Lakes Community Conservation Corps, based in Racine and Milwaukee.

There will be time for Q&A. Event runs 7-8 p.m.

In a photo-rich presentation, Litzau will talk about similarities between the actions of his Great Lakes CCC crews and the crews some of our grandparents and great-grandparents might have worked on 85 years ago.

He’ll also talk about how the modern-day version of the CCC at the Great Lakes CCC is addressing emerging issues that affect our Great Lakes communities: invasive species, renewable energy, social equity, homeless veterans, veterans transitioning to civilian life, the repair of beneficial uses on the Great Lakes, and more.
