Date & Time

Description
In this webinar, Jenny Radesky, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Michigan Medical School, will describe how early childhood professionals can use strengths-based, evidence-informed approaches to engage families and encourage healthier media use at home. Since the pandemic, children’s media use has increased, as has parental stress. The topic of ‘screen time’ often makes parents feel guilty or overwhelmed, and ECE providers can be valuable in both conveying good information as well as following best practices themselves. The American Academy of Pediatrics Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health developed "The 5 Cs of Media Use" framework to promote healthy relationships with screens. The specific elements and research behind the 5 Cs will be discussed, along with tips and resources to use with families to reduce stress/guilt and encourage thoughtful use of media with young children. This event is approved for 1.0 hours of continuing education credit through the Wisconsin Registry.
